Ahhhh fashion week…that crazy time in New York when everyone decks out in their best outfits in hopes of getting the attention of a street style photographer and then ending up on a widely read blog. It has been highly entertaining to watch the action. A lot of the shows happen really close to our apartment so the streets around my home have pretty much been a runway for the last 7 days. I absolutely love getting a first hand view of the up and coming trends…of things that will eventually more than likely catch on with people everywhere. Although I do not take fashion too seriously, I really enjoy watching how things change and evolve…seeing new shapes, colors, looks from the past becoming new again. (get ready to say a big welcome back to the 90s!) And since I have a first hand view of it, I thought I’d share some of the looks I am repeatedly seeing.
Living in New York City, it is wayyy easier to jump on board with the latest looks, as opposed to say, in Alabama where I am from. We don’t have to play it safe here because noone cares. And why should they?? It’s just clothes. It is wonderful and freeing. If you live in a smaller city where people might look at you a little crazy if, let’s just say you are wearing a pair of overalls (since that is indeed a thing), my advice to you is just to NOT CARE. Fashion is meant to be fun and getting dressed is one of the few areas of life where it’s ok to please yourself and noone else- kind of refreshing, right?
Here are a few trends I’m seeing…there are lots more worth mentioning, but too much to cram into one post!
Crop tops…they were all over the streets and all over the runway so they are definitely here to stay. Another look shown here that I saw a ton of is the below the knee skirt.
Sporty girl. Denim jackets, baseball caps, shirts tied around the waist, etc., balanced by heels and jewelry. Missing from the action were the wedge sneakers that have been everywhere for the past 3 years….think those have run their course!
Off the shoulders…both or just one
Overalls
Bubblegum lips
Birkenstocks- and not necessarily the birkenstock brand, but chunkier, wider straps are taking the place of daintier sandals.
Meet the mule. You might be shaking your head at this now, but this is one thing that’s definitely coming back from the 90s with a vengeance!
Pink
Plaid
Navy- head to toe navy and navy with black are my favorite ways to wear it.
